im trying to setup a livelink admin/index server with an active/passive partition. My problem is that when i install the default admin server and enterprise datasource, i can't specify the "virtual host name" of the cluster. The local hostname gets platered in the database and search.ini.

I have tried changing the hostname of the default admin server, and updating the "signature" in the kini table to reflect the right hostname, however when i failover, i can an error (something about cant find enterprise....).

If anyone has a better way to set this up, please let me know.

I am not sure I understand the active/passive conumdrum here.what I have done any number of times is set up more than one admin server for the same livelink database. The idea being if the main admin server dies then the second one can run search(no indexing). Is this what you are trying to do.A cluster such as MSCS should be able to acheive a true cluster like you want that is you can bring the good one when the first one is down.I have seen it configured to work wih LEA instances but it was almos done almost at the MSCS level and I got the feeling that there wasnot anything livelinkish being done there.I am almost positive if you contact Dave Kinchlea or Ben Shapiro thru linked in they may actually tell you how clustering is done in a livelink LES instance or try posting this in the admin/search discussions area in OT.Just rying to help here.....

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

There is an install guide for clusters on the KC, once you've deleted the AdminServers section you can connect to the the LL Server via the Cluster IP and then that should set up the Admin server with the correct details.

I've just installed a few active/passive cluster installs for customers and they have all worked ok.

Hi Brett.

OK. It can be a bit of a beast to install, but the three main points to remember are:
1) Install Livelink on both servers (in the same location) so that you get the services created, registry information added, and all information is correct.
2) When you create the "Livelink" fail-over service in the MSCS admin, make sure you give all of the appropriate service parameter information.
3) Remember that the fail-over server needs to run as the same machine name as the primary.

Aside from that, frankly, you need to determine if the overhead of using MSCS is worth it. I've found that from Livelink 9.5 and higher, customers are more than happy to simply have multiple search engines (thus redundancy), and then multiple index partitions. Then, if there's a server failure, you still have search, but only partial loss of new data being indexed (it gets queued while the server is down). The only thing that you may completely lose while the server is down is the agent subsystem - notifications, etc.. - even those can be distributed across several servers to reduce impact. This set-up is almost always agreeable to the customer when they realize the significant cost savings.

Now I have two of you to bug if somebody asks me to install a cluster
