Livelink 9.5 "nicknames"

Please advice:
1. How does the create "nickname" AKA shortlink functionality in 9.5 affect Queries/Live report?.
2. If one changes the default nickaname, then the rest of the group will need to know what the new nickname for them to query by nickname?
3. Is this Enterprise wide? Meaning, does the permission shierarchy still apply?
4. What is the main advantage of using nicknames, besides having a shorter link? How have you seen this applied in a business process.

Nicknames don't work for cross-domain users, they are only checked against the login domain for that user.
