Hello,

I'm a user of Livelink 9.1.0.3 with OS WinXP.
I have the permissions and the access to all the java based functions but the "Reserve" features doesn't work. I can't submit the Reserve.

I have checked all my Java runtime, and my Java Virtual Machine. My preferences for Internet Explorer 6 are good too.

Have you an idea ?

Thanks for reply!

can you provide some more detail, error logs, screen shots, error messages etc as well as some more info about your LL instance, e.g. patch version, OS of server etc.

Do you see "Reserve" in the applet ?Does other things like
"Add Versions" show up on the menu.
The java applet are client things but are dynamically built based on the node's ACL.What I am getting at is if the functions menu works then java is working

To test this in your personal workspce, create a folder and turn all permissions on it especially Add Items and Reserve
Now add a document in it and see if it has "reserve" and whether or not you can reserve it.If it works there and if it does not on your node you just have to ask the permissions admin for that.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

OK, let me add some details !

1) I see "Reserve" in the "Functions" menu.
2) When I click on it, the Internet Explorer window changes and I can see four "fields" : "Name", "Reserve By:", "Option" and "Action".
At the bottom of the page, there is "Applet Dashboard started"

3) In the "Option" part, there is "Download document to local drive", so ok, it can be downloaded.

4) The action "Submit" doesn't work ! And I have (after 20seconds) the famous IE page : "Unable to Locate Host..."

5) The action "Cancel" is ok.

Strange??

For information, I have all the permissions & when I create my own folder with my own file, it's the same error when submit...
Another information, with other PCs on Windows 2000 with exactly the same configuration (firewall, IE, JRE & JVM..), it's ok.

After the failed attempt if you refresh the screen in livelink does the document show a reseved status.
If you are suing IE as browser would you set the browser
Tools-Internet Options-General-Temp Internet Files-Settings
and put it as "Every Visit to the Page"
It would also make sense to empty your cache and rule out
that.
Other java applets in livelink are workflow painters,
text editor.Would you test them as well.

Does 'Add Version" without reserve work ?

Also I forgot to mention sometimes the activex control that does javascript(the submit may eb is a a javascript action). But I have seenin those cases a yellow triangle at the bottom of the browser indicating javascript error. Can you submit category information which is a popup as well.Any pop up blockers in place
Also to reule out local computer problem can you log in to another computer and see if it works.

Thanks appnair for your answers.
I will test tomorrow and keep you posted.

What JVM are you using?

9.1.0.3 requires the Microsoft JVM, not the SUN JVM.

Hello,

Appnair, I have done all your tips..no result
In the status bar there is : "Applet Dashboard started" (I think it's normal)
For the JVM, I have the both, I hope it's not a problem.

This morning, for the fist time, and I don't know How, I have done a "Reserve" !!
But..I can't "Unreserve" lol !
And I can't "Reserve" a second time..

Maybe it comes from my Internet Explorer..
I will have a look in the temp or in the register.

If you have other ideas..don't hesitate!!
It's really mysterious...

So I believe what you are having is a bad browser with a corrupt javascript submission mechanism. If you followed one of my tips to log in to another computer that will tell you whether or not it is your workstation problem(Unless of course every computer in your org is imaged the same way). Can other users do this in your or without problems ?

THe other users work with Win2000 so it's the only station with WinXP.

I will erase my hard-disk, reinstall WinXP & all the Java components..

Bertrand
