I consult with a customer that has symantec anti-virus corporate vs. 8, the workstations a running windows 2000 professional.

Here's my problem, when you login as administrator on the workstations you can open the anti-virus program and the live update button is available to run, but, when you login as a normal user the button is grayed out and has a lock next to it.

They want the users to be able to run the live update themselves, but they can't have administrator access. I've searched high and dry with no answer to this.

Thanks in advance
Dale

I did notice they don't have the cooresponding server install on the server, could this be why?

To fix this you need to go to the Symantec System Console and right click on the parent server of the clients you want to give liveupdate rights too and select > all tasks >Symantec Antivirus > Virus Definition Manager... > and in the bottom section "How Clients Retrieve Virus Definitions Updates" you will see a box checked that says "Do not allow client to manually launch liveupdate" un-check this box.
