I am not sure this is the correct forum but I couldn't find a Windows Messenger/Live Messenger forum?

I have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise installed as a desktop operating system, I am not going to go into the specifics of why, I just am. I use Windows Messenger and have upgraded over time to Live Messenger with the help of some hacks to get it to install on the Server OS (officially Live Messenger 8.5 and later are only supported on 32bit XP SP2 or later and Vista) . Up until last week I was running the Beta version of Live Messenger 2009 which worked perfectly. Yesterday however I upgraded to the release version of Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8050.1202) which after applying the trick using ResHack installed OK. Unfortunately the contact list was gone.
I verified online that the 'People' were still there but for some reason the contact list doesn't sync. I tried various things to restore this but failed so uninstalled it and reinstalled the Beta which is working fine. I can only assume MS have done this on purpose? I have searched and so far not found any solution.
Does anyone else use Server 2003 as a desktop OS and use Live Messenger? Is there a new trick to getting the latest version working?

I am pretty certain that wasn't an option duing the install?

It isn't part of the install. You drop to a command prompt, type that, do the install then type "change user /execute" and that allows applications to install nicely to your server.

What does it actually do? A quick search relveals varions posts about installing apps on Terminal Server?

I found this page with someone else who has noticed the same(?) problems with the released version of Live Essentials 2009. They have done the same as me and reverted to the Beta:

Yes, it is for installing apps on terminal server. Is that not what you are doing with a Server OS as a desktop OS? If that isn't the case, I'd suggest you roll back.

Yes its a Server OS but I am not using Terminal Services, I just have 2003 installed instead of XP. As for rolling back, this is where this thread started - I have rolled back to the previous Beta. My question was how do I get the latest Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8050.1202) installed and working on Server 2003?
