Live data attachment in FMP?

Greetings,
I was wondering if there were any means of making
a live attachment to a data source with FMP as the
front end?

I can pull data in via ODBC, but and changes in the
data source arent reflected in the FileMaker Pro.

So I've found out that you can in fact connect to
FMP data via ODBC. But now I am having troubles
getting this to work.

I found on FMP's website that there are various
"workarounds" that you can enable via registry
key's. I dont think I am utilizing them correctly.
I can see the different FMP databases listed in
MS Access when I try to connect to them, but I am
getting an error message regarding file/field names
(that have a '.' or a ' ' (space) in them).

I believe the workaround flags should be able to
solve these, but dont appear to be.

Any help would be very much appreicated, as soon as
I figure this out, I will write the first FAQ for
this forum
