Hey any of you guys know how I can tie into an "active" flat file DB using MySQL? "active" meaning the DOS progy is running on clients, I just need to look into the data for reports - software company is willing to give me the table layouts. Just have to deal with file/record locks and such.

Before you suggest to copy into .txt and work with it, no thanks I need access to live data.)

Thanks

If it ain't broke, it must be off.

I think your metaphor is wrong. A MySQL database server can look at two things: its own data data store and a client.

There is software that can synchronize heterogeneous data sources with MySQL. But the software consists of a client that looks at the foreign data source and another client that is speaking to MySQL. Those two clients talk to one another.
