Hello all,

Following on from Draoued's post in a recent thread about updating URL modification dates by calling upfrontcmd.exe (thread401-992304), I am contemplating adding such to my scripts, as users have complained about what they see as 'old' links [sad]

The problem I have is that there are 4 URLs for each of 24 user classes - so I will have to create 4 batch files, each with 24 lines to reference the individual NewsItems. That in itself is not a problem; it's the time taken to navigate to the Advanced properties of each item to cut and paste the ID to the batch files

Does anyone have a macro they can share which will list NewsItem IDs and descriptions (so I can determine the correct ones) per user/class? All the urls are in a folder, so if a macro lists by branch, that'd help.

many thanks,

lex

Found a good reference on the Cognos site - doc 124663 - that allows one to create a list of all NewsItems and NewsBoxes in the datastore.
Hours saved!

Or you could search for a tool on the Support Web Site called Access Reporter that will get this information, and then build a cube to report of it. It lists what the access permissions are for each Upfront object and displays a PowerPlay report.

Drlex , what kind of newsitems are your links in Upfront ??

If they are cubes items , and if you are using at least ppes 7.1 , you could update the Date modified in upfront when enabling your cubes

Code:
../ppadmtool connect ServerName:Portnumber USER myuser PASSWORD MyPassword ENABLE MyCubePath NOTIFY CUBE_OBJECT MyCubePath EVENT=UPDATE

This command will update all the saved views based on the cube, even if they are in Personal Newsbox.

draoued,
They're all URLs to Excel sheets. I had another 24 sets of 12 to do, so it was useful to get a list. I'm already using a similar script to update the dates of reports when re-enabling cubes subsequent to their being copied to the PP server.
As an aside, I did find that after upgrade to 7.3, all my 7.1 reports failed to update. I had to recreate them all [sad]. Must have been something I failed to do.

flex13,
thanks for the suggestion, but Access Reporter would be a sledgehammer on this particular peanut...
