NL-00278: cannot open log file
SNL-00016: snlfohd: error opening file
Linux Error: 13: Permission denied

Listener failed to start. See the error message(s) above...

and where can I comment out the listener.log so that I does not write the log

Please help !!!!

John

Linux Error: 13: Permission denied

Grant permission on directory /u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/Db_1/network/log to the oracle user. [3eyes]

BTW: You are starting the listener as Oracle user? [ponder]

How do I grant the permission to this directory.

John

First check that the unix account you are using to start the listener is the Oracle account that owns the $ORACLE_HOME -- If not, then you need to login as that account.

If you still get that error, you may have installed Oracle with an account you are not using as 'operator' account -- In this case you need to login as root and change the owner of the $ORACLE_HOME tree to the account you will be using.
