I have an Octel Aria 250 w/ v.3.11 software.

I am trying to create a listen only mailbox that will NOT allow users on the Octel network, or external callers, to leave a voicemail. I have created a type 1 listen only mailbox but this mailbox still allows subscribers to send voicemails to the mailbox.

Is there a way to create a mailbox that only informs that the mailbox will not accept any voicemails? As an example, I compose a voicemail and attempt to send it to the mailbox I am trying to create - rather then accept the voice I would hear a prerecorded announcement that says the mailbox does not accept voicemail, please send the mail to this other mailbox number.

I don't know if this is the best way, but you can try a mailbox type 31. You can record a greeting, yet the mailbox won't accept messages. When it comes to setting the caller's menu, you can just leave it unconfigured.

log into the listen only mailbox, and in the admin options, set up a contributers list. Just put your mailbox on the list. This will prevent anyone else from sending a message to that box. Also, make sure you record the message from your mailbox, and send it to the listem only. That way, it will play the message, then hang up or go to the mailbox you have in the "Callers Destination Mailbox" field. If you want to hang up on the callers, create a second listen only, send a message to it saying "Thank You - Goodbye" set the Callers Destination Mailbox in the first box to the second box. This way the callers will hear the message, then hear "Thank You - Goodbye" Don't recored the greeting in the listen only as your message, if you do callers will hear "No messages are waiting" then they will be disconnected.
