Hi all,

I have a Linux server and a Windows server on my network, neither are running DNS at the moment and Id like to know if I will get any problems if I try running DNS on both, what these problems might be and is there a way to fix them.

My Linux server is the external server doing the routing/security and my Windows 2k server provides internal services like DHCP, roaming profiles, print/file server etc.

I recently read that I should have DNS running on the Win2k server if I have Active Directory running which I do as if I don't have it running I'll get problems when trying to login, which I somtimes do.

Currently on the Windows workstations (Win2k/XP) The DNS server is setup as my ISP's DNS server so I was going to setup DNS on my Linux box and have the Windows machines point to this as the primary DNS and then the secondary DNS server would be the Win2k Server..

Would this work? Is there another way of doing it?

Thanks in advance

well u can have DNS on both windows and linux but the only difference will be that ur windows one will be master one and linux will be slave .................

u should be running DNS on windows if ur running active directory because even ur mail server requires dns

in future if u want to configure sendmail (linux mail server) than also u will require DNS so DNS is really very important

and both lin and win can have dns
