Linux vs Windows 2000

I need to write a report contrasting the internal layering of the software modules in Windows 2000 Server Family with Linux (not Red Hat, etc) ... specifically in relation to application, hardware and memory management and security.

Any information, advice, references, links would be gratefully received.
