hello-

trying to have Ubuntu vm client receive email but having difficulties.

Using Ubuntu Evolution email. I can email successfully to my hotmail account using Evolution but replying back is an issue. NDR based on Unknown user.. so how can I make Evolution or some other linux based system allow me an smtp relay or smart host without having to reply inbound to the Ubuntu client over the internet.

Thanks

blade

When you say "replying back"... what address is it replying to? At what domain?

That domain will need an 'MX' record configured pointing to a mail server that knows how to relay email to your system.

Is there any particular reason you want to set up your Ubuntu system as a mail host? Why not just use it as a client to access your external email accounts using POP3, as you would, say, a Windows desktop system?
