When I execute the `init 6` command or reboot from the desktop, the system will shut down but will not come back up. I have to physically turn off the server and turn it back on. I installed Red Hat on an old Compaq Presario 4506 box. Do you know of a way to check any logs on why the system hoses at this point.

Thanks,

I would check /etc/inittab to see what the default entry is.

init 6 Stop the UNIX system and reboots to the run-level defined by the init default entry in /etc/inittab
in /etc/inittab.

Another way to reboot the system would be

shutdown now -r

-r reboot
-h halt

-Danny

You could also run "dmesg" from the command line to look at your boot messages when it comes up to see if it sees a problem. Also look at your syslog file for any peculiarities. d3funct

The software required `Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.
