Can you please suggest if Linux can provide a brilliant cost effective and performance based solution to top the Microsoft proposal our company has been offered.
We've bought a SAP application/database. Our suppliers have suggested:
1. SAP to run on MS Win2003 server/s.
2. 4 MS Win2003 Terminal Servers.
3. 50 current W2k PCs that already use MS applications will also run MS terminal service to connect via a terminal server to the SAP box.
4. An additional 50 new basic minimum PCs running Windows CE. These will only run MS terminal service to connect via a terminal server to the SAP box.
5. If required a few MS servers running a management applic called Cockpit that also provides load balancing.

A Could this scenario be more effective with Linux?
B Would we require terminal servers if the SAP box were Linux?
C If we must keep the SAP box on MS (the supplier's expertise zone) could the terminal servers run Linux?
D If terminal servers are Linux how would the current W2k PCs connect? Can Win and Linux be run simultaneously on a PC? Maybe MS Virtual PC? Or run Win under Linux?

Is such a scenario feasible/preferable under Linux? Must bear in mind that here we know Windows and would have to learn Linux pronto.
Thanks
