i somewhat understand san's and how they work. my question is more specific as to how the server(s) with the hba sees the san-attached devices in linux.

does it see it as a local device? /dev/sda? /dev/hda?
what about tape device? /dev/st0?
what type of modules are necessary for FC LUN?
are there any special device names or drivers that are necessary for server to see the san?

thanks for the help
