Hi Folks,
I just built a new server out of old parts. Now I can't seem to get the X server/windows to work. I keep getting error messages like
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
I have a 1997 computer with an AMD-K6-2/350MHz it with about 196 Megs of ram in and an 8GB HDD in it. I have a Diamondviper v330 AGP card, it is a nvidia i do believe. at least it is reconized as a riva 128. I have been googling all nite trying out stuff and nothing seems to be working. I am very desperate to get this issue fixed it's been 7 days of trouble shooting and it isn't working yet. I can bring up a command line promp to work in but not GUI, can anyone help?
I have tried to download a new linux driver from Nvidia, but that gives me errors too, something about, the kernel was configured to include rivafb support as a loadable kernel module. ...
the final ERROR messaage is: Unable to load the kernel module 'nidia.ko'. This is most likely because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source files. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for you kernel;
I would love anyones thoughts on what to do, no idea is a bad one here
