I have a linux box set up that acts, among other things, as firewall & masq. server for my home network.

I have asked my ISP to set up a SMTP queue, and got myself a static IP address. I would like to set up my domain email to be collected and distributed with this box.

Just starting to learn sendmail, then will play with qmail and any other product I can lay my hands on...

Could someone point out any good net-based resources on this topic, and also any tips that people have to make this work, any special tricks, etc.

Thanks for any information that you can throw my way.

(I have asked the same question in the sendmail forum, but the more eyes on this the better, I guess).

No special tricks ...setup basic sendmail and use procmail as local delivery agent.

You will need to setup sendmail in a more than default manner than normal distributions give you. This means you will need to compile using the M4 macro compilier and create your on sendmail.cf file. I would highly recommend using procmail over qmail. Qmail and Procmail are the local delivery agents only. Sendmail its self alone is only the transfer server daemon. Which mail delivery systems have two seperate parts. Tranfer and delivery.

What you need to do is setup sendmail on your firewall box just as a regular email server but added support for procmail local delivery and pop3 protocals.

Just get lastest sendmail source and compile the whole thing from scratch. Best way to learn sendmail. There is a very good readme file for creating the sendmail.cf file in the source tree's /cf directory.

If you want more specifics or have trouble compiling sendmail or making the sendmail.cf file email me at maxit@rcwing.com

Don't Forget to grab the imap rpm and install it as well.

You need this to get the POP portion working correctly.

If my memory serves...

yea he (i have the same problem) must install imap to have pop3.

OK OK OK. Great i runed a port scanner on my RedHat6.2 (nmap) and found many ports open ( FtpServer..., and 25 SMTP) but no one for POP3. It's clear know.
But how ipam will interract with sendmail?
is there any good sites thatcan help me i am new in linux and i have no how can help me :(

good luck for all Linux lover ;)
