Having an issue with sending email from a RedHat Linux server.
When sending a test message via the telnet <servername> 25 ehlo method, it is received succesfully.
However, when using mail -s "subject" recipient@somewhere.com < fileattachment
the emails just do not materialise.
/var/log/maillog shows 'Message received OK'.
The mail relay FQDN is in the hosts file, the 'smart relay host' entry in sendmail.cf, and in the 'SMART_HOST' part of sendmail.mc.
I have no issues with Solaris servers, but I can use mailx on them, so can specify the senders email address. I cannot use any 3rd party apps (eg. nail) on this linux server so can only use the default mail app, which doesn't seem to let me enter the sender email. I think this is where the issue may lie, but it's just a guess.
I have tried the advice on to set up an alias for the email sending address, but this seems to makes no difference.
Any help here would be much appreciated..
Many thanks
