linux screen command tweaking 1

Hi there,
In linux's "screen" command, I noticed the following behavior:
say I open up a new window with the screen command; in this new window:

1. my bash alias doesn't seem to work (issued bash command to varify that I am in bash after issueing screen)
2. when auto-complete doesn't given an exact match, my whole putty screen flashes in white (this doesn't happen with my original login session; only in my screen window)

Not really big problems at all, but just wondering if there are ways around those issues

solutions were:
1: in .screenrc, enter "vbell off"
2: in .screenrc, enter shell -$SHELL
