Hi to all on the forum.

Firstly I have very limited knowledge of DNS/DHCP issues, so apologies in advance. I have a linux satellite box which I am trying to add to my network. My network is 192.168.0.x so my box is 192.168.0.4, my router is 192.168.0.1, so within my box I change "nameserver" to 192.168.0.1 and "gateway" to the same. When I change the DHCP box to yellow to prevent changes and try to save changes the nameserver automatically changes to 194.168.x.xxx which is the DNS server ip.
I canot understand why this happens or how I might stop it. Any help appreciated.
Cheers

it would probably be easier to continue to let your sat box get its network setup via DHCP.
it will almost certainly never change its IP address but if you need to be sure you should be able to adjust the DHCP server to issue a specified address bassed on the MAC address of the box.

what are you currently using for a dhcp server (broadband router or PC)?

Thanks for reply

I am using a router but I am only trying to receive with this box. When i leave the DHCP ticked the ips do remain the same but still cannot receive.
Cheers

without details on what the box actually is & does it is difficult to advise but it sounds like you need to configure some port forwarding on your router.

this is probably the wrong forum for your question
does the supplier of the Box have any help forums?

why not change the IP of the ROUTER to, lets say, 192,168.0.254, and let that BOX continue it's merry way with the 0.1 setting...?

but that would mean, that you'd have to change possibly the gateway and DNS settings of your PCs, if they are not set to DHCP...

and yes, I too agree, that it probably is an issue with PORT FORWARDING, which you would set in the ROUTER...
