Hi,

I have seen this error message originating from the '/usr/src/linux/drivers/md/md.c' code, which is a 'multiple devices' driver in respect of raid systems. It seems fairly drastic if called as early as process id 1. Presumably, you upgraded something recently that is now producing this error. If you can't boot in maintenance mode I'd try booting via tom's root/boot disk ( and running fsck on your partitions first.... What did you change before this error appeared ?

Regards
