You can install a WEB server on Linux, and use that from a Unix or Windows installed CE/CR system, but Linux doesn't have enough of a user base to get much play from large scale software developers yet.
Thanks for your help. Here is what I am trying to do.
Get linux platform as operating system. Install Oracle database. Get window 2000 server and install Crystal report and make this a web server. can I use crystal report from within window 2000 to access Oracle database in a linux operating system and still be able to generate reports via the web. If I can do that, How can I set up this and what consideration I should have in mind.
thanks again for your help
Al
Depending upon what you mean by generate reports via the web, you might consider Crystal Enterprise.
If you intend to create reports and post them on the Linux based WEB server for the world to view, be careful of the Crystal Broadcast License, which has (or had?) a 10K tag for publishing reports for use by over 50 users.
There's not much to setting it up, just drop in the iron, add the software, and you should be in business.
Thanks for your advice, as a matter of fact. I do have 100 to 150 clients who I would like them to access my information via the web report.
I use Crystal Report for a stand alone reports. and it is the only software that I know.
I realy do not want to pay 10k to have report published in the web. So please if you know another third party software that has the ability to publish report to the web, let me know about it.
Thanks
Oracle can cut HTML/XML pages, the trick is automating it for viewing on a WEB server.
I tend to push Crystal Enterprise (CE). They had a deal on a 5 concurrent license package of CE 8.5 for $8500 recently. It has lots of features, including scheduling and a historical repository, and you wouldn't need a separate WEB server for Win 2000, because it's all built in using IIS.
Crystal's licensing is VERY aggressive (read: bordering on extortionate), but if you want the feature set, it's cheaper than coding it.
If you are willing to do real time reporting, as opposed to publishing results on the web, I believe that you can use ASP or whatever to View real time reporting without the licensing penalty.
If you're looking for a less expensive means of sharing Crystal Reports, consider the products at
