Linux not resolving netbios names using Wins

I have a Mandrake 8.2 print server that points to a DHCP printer. My problem is that the linux box is not resolving netbios names even though a Wins server ip is entered through Samba/Swat.

Linux will not resolve it's own name or any other computer name. I can't add the printer's name to the host file because the ip is being DHCP'd.

Any ideas are welcome.

In the smb.conf file, there is a section called name resolve order. The default order is to use the lmhosts file, hosts file, wins query then broadcast. Try changing the order to this string:

wins lmhosts host bcast

You can debug name resolution problems using nmblookup -d n where n is the debug level. Start with the value 1 and increase the value if there is insufficient information to resolve the problem. Be warned that this can produce copious amounts informationat levels above 2.

If you need some assistance interpreting the information, reply back with a pointer to the log. It might be too big to post here.
