I just recently installed Linux Mandrake 7.2 on my desktop.
everything went fine, its up and running great exept for one 2 things.
We have a cable modem at my house and it is running into a linux box as a dhpc server..so everyone else is sharing the connection. My Windows 98 laptop and desktop both work fine, and when I installed linux I put all the same DNS, Gateway and all that jazz in and it seems to half way work..

I can boot up my Linux computer, browse about 3 web pages and then for no reason the connection just quits. If I leave my computer alone for awhile and come back it will usually work again for about 1min more then internet dies again. I know its not the internet because my laptop on windows98 works non stop during this. so I'm stuck here.

ALso does anyone know how to set up my linux computer so that I can 'see' it on the network and share files and stuff from my windows98 computer..and also have my linux computer be able to see everyone else on the home network.

Thanks for any help..I'm a total newbie at linux.

I'm using KDE 2.0 as my desktop environment.

DJKAOS,

I'm afraid that I can't help you on the internet problem.

However, as regards setting up your linux machine so that you can see it on the network - you need to install samba. There's a lot of documentation around on it so you shouldn't have any problem installing or configuring it.
Mise Le Meas,
