Hey all,

I'm playing around with setting up an ipchains based firewall with Debian. Couple questions:

where are the scripts that handle network startup? I read some docs but still can't find it, I'm looking for the commands that assign ip addresses to the interfaces.

where should firewall startup scripts be? I know where I'd put them, but I want to know the popular opion. Or is it common just to write a .sh that has all the ipchains commands, then call that from an rc.?

Thanks!

try pmfirewall, it will ask you a few basic questions and set up your firewall for you

pmf sounds cool but my goal is to learn all the ipchains noise by trial and opps. However I'm sure I wind up trying out pmfirewall sooner or later :)

I did do a grep of /etc/ for the machines IP address, the file that seems to set it is /etc/network/interfaces
...a file that was mentioned no-where in the tutorial I'm reading.

If anyone knows where it's popular to put your fw scripts at let me know. I'm still getting the hang of Linux. Thanks,
vern
