I use linux 7.3 and the installation went fine. whenever i try to use YAST to configure my network settings so I can go on the internet when the installation program opens up it crashes.
Please Help!

Possibly hardware? Waht equipment do you have?

I have a similar problem with a Compaq EN SFF, it crashed everytime I want to do system updates from the internet. It has to be the box itself, I experienced the same problem with RH 7.2, Mandrake 8.0 and 8.1. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries

Bobby Joe,
Are you opening yast locally, or remotely, are you using
yast or yast2.
You cannot use a vt100 terminal(telnet style) terminal
with yast.
My suggestion is to serve yast via X or login to the machine directly.
As far as configuring networking goes, remember that
all of SuSE's main settings are located in /etc/rc.config.

If worst comes to worst you could assign everything manually.

It is not a big deal.
Write back if you need help with this.

sorry i was being a bit vague

here's wot i got.

terayon tj210 modem

usb cable modem (ndis5) network adapter
manufacturer:turbonet
device status:working properly ( in windows it says that)
version: 4.10.2222

usb cable modem (WDM)
device type: universal serial bus controllers
manufacturer:turbonet

i think thats all.

this is what i get once linux is loaded up.

console log for linux
linux kernel: ip-tables: (c) 2000 core team
linux kernel: ip conntrack (2048 buckets, 16384 max)
linux kernel: kernel: usb.c: usb device 2 (vend/prod 0x40 e/8xe301) is not claimed by any active driver.
linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-226
linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-226

You need driver support for this device.
I am not familiar with any for linux, and I cannot do HW.
Please check with the device vendor and then run a search
on the cable modem model and type with "linux" as a
keyword.
Maybe someone is providing some support for this device
if the specs are public.

okay i've found out that i need a new network adapter as my network adapter at the moment doesn't support ethernet. now i've got my christmas money i can buy a network card.

i've got suse 7.3, pentium 3 processor on a RM made machine. so which network adapter card do you recommend i buy. i will also be wanting to run windows on the internet so it must be a network adapter card which can run on both windows and linux. and of course i want it to have an ethernet connection.
thanks

oh yeah i think it also needs to be a 10 base-t whatever that means

Umm, There are very few cards that I have used with SuSE
that do not work.
The exceptions being a usb (linksys) hub attached adapter.

Stick with mainstream produced nics with well/widely recognized/implemented chipsets and you should be fine.

To bobby joe (Visitor):

Linux is not crashing, yast is. you should telnet or ssh in to the server and kill the process.
