Hi
I'm a newbie Linux, I've got a compaq Armada laptop 32MB Ram 3GB hard disk. I've got 2 CD's of Redhat linux. Now the problem is- the CDs dont say what version of Redhat this is. secondly - when I put disk 1 in the CD-Rom drive it wont boot from the CD.
So how do I install this. I suppose with the laptop specifications I've given I' should be able to run Linux.

Alternatively can someone point me to a website were I can download a flavour of linux with a GUI. and small in size.

Thanks a lot folks!!

If you only have 2 disks, it is probably RH 7.2 or lower. I think RH 7.3 and above are at least 3 disks (not counting source disks).

As for booting, you may have a bios issue - in that the cd is not flagged as a bootable device. If flagging the cdrom as a bootable device is an option, make sure it is first in the boot order list.

If you point your favorite browser to you will find links there to all the current/popular verions of linux. Download & burn the distribution of your choice and have fun.

I can boot a Corel linux CD OK. But when I try it with Redhat, it wont recognise it as a bootable disk. Any bootdisks I could download. Thanks for the help Sbrews!
