Hi, All

I am creating a multi-boot development environment, and stalled at the Linux Redhat 7.0 step. Right after I choose the custom installation option, I get the following error: 'An error occurred-No valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for any errors.'

Included below is the current layout. Thanks in advance for any insight-much appreciated!.

Current Environment;
-Primary Master (C: drive, Primary Partition, Active, FAT32, 6.8 GB) [ WIN98 SE, 6.8 GB ]
-Primary Slave (D: drive, Primary Partition, Not Active, FAT32, 14.3 GB)[ WIN2K, 5.98 GB ]
-Primary Slave (G: drive, Extended Logical Partition, Not Active, 8.29 GB)[ Empty, 3.0 GB ]
-Primary Slave (G: drive, Extended Logical Partition, Not Active, 8.29 GB)[ Unallocated, 5.3 GB ] intended for PM formatting and Linux installation.

Make Linux the active partition and use lilo, or use a 3rd party bootloader such as BootMagic (part of Partition Magic)... basically, Win 98 cant see your linux partition. This should have been an option during your linux install.

If you need more help, let us know. Good luck!

Thanks for the response Pbxman.

Right now the partition with WIN98 is active. Should this partition remain active? Is it poosible to have 2 partitions active? Or should just the new linux partition be active? Thanks.

like ploxman said make your linux partition the active partition and use LILO (provided by linux) now it has been my experience that all partitions have to be in FAT 32 format in order for LILO to recognize them, if for some reason you have a NTFS partition as part of your multiboot system you will need third party software other than LILO, LILO wont recognize NTFS (or at least it has not worked with our systems running an NTFS partition Grodriguez, MCP

Using LILO ,in multi-OS system , as bootmanager is very dangerous.The bootmanagers are allocated in MBR.If lilo will be damaged,you will lose the bootmanager,but all linux will be damaged too,'cause it is a part of it.So many users prefere use other bootmanager.
