i am going to be setting up a linux machine down the road, to do ftp. it will be behind a hardware firewall and i currently have the samba/linux firewall disabled. (cant seem to access it from other computers any other way)
the network it is on has approx 50 computers total, but only a small number will have rights to it. the network is a mix of windows 98SE, 2000. there are also a couple of macs on a seperate network that might need access to it as well.

is there a good site that can help me thru this?

thanks

peace

Oh, this can't be good. Nine days and no replies to your question? Ugh. I just posted a question yesterday about wu-ftpd configuration and nary a peep. I wonder if I should try elsewhere... *sigh*

Good luck--I hope you get an answer to your question before the end of the month.

The product that you want to run is "vsftpd".
It is the default on RedHat 9 and is available in source and RPM form for most major linux distros.

You should be able to google for the details.

"Surfinbox Shares" - A fundraising program that builds revenue from dialup Internet users.

sabbathunter and deepgloat, I would recommend either vsftpd or ProFTPd. I would stay away from Wu-FTPd.

Pick one of the two above, read through the documentation (or google for a HowTo), and if you have any specific questions on it, start a new thread and post it. I can't help you with WuFTPd because I would never use it, too many security flaws and I hate the way you configure it.

HINT:
You mention a hardware firewall and then say that
certain services don't work. You mention that
with a local firewall enabled your services don't
work.

I'm no rocket scientist but I've been working with
linux a long time.
All problems are susceptible to the correct approach.
I'm also available for consulting with a fully
documented soltuion available after payment.
