Hi all,

Can someone give me a quick lowdown on the differences between EXT2 and EXT3 file systems.

Cheers.

ext2 is not a journalling filesystem. ext3 is a journalling filesystem.

journalling filesystems make extra work for themselves and your CPU in favor of quicker startups for the machine and greater file/data security in terms of managing loss of data due to accidental power downs, system hangs, and other silly things.

extremely low CPU power machines will demonstrate lulls in processing when disk-related activities are large enough using ext3. normally, given today's CPU power, you won't notice anything and should use ext3.

IMHO
