i have a linux/98 dual boot pc right now. i want to reformat the partition that linux is on and install win 2k pro on it. now, my question is, when i reformat and get rid of linux, is lilo still going to pop up and try to boot linux? if so, how do i get rid of that?

Before removing linux, log in as root and type
Code:
lilo -u
and this should remove lilo and put your previous boot sector in place.

I have however installed Win2K on an older machine that used to only have linux, and the NT Bootloader overwrote LILO... so you probably do not need to remove LILO first...

ok, i did log in as root on my linux and typed lilo -u which nothing else showed up it just went right to another prompt, so i thought it worked, but it didn't. i rebooted my computer to see if it did, and lilo tried to run again. only thing is, it stopped after it showed the LI in the upper left of teh screen. so i thought i might as well try to install win2k pro and hopefully that would overwrite lilo. but it didn't. i booted off my win2k disk but then it asked me to reboot to finish the install, and ofcourse when i reboot, lilo tries to load and my computer hangs after the LI show up. what can i do to remove this? please help.

nevermind, i figured it out, i made a windows boot disk to get to dos and then ran fdisk /mbr
