Hi

I want to install Suse Linux 7.3 on a Compaq Proliant 1600
Server.
I have two 18.2 GB ultra-wide scsi Harddisks.

But for some reason yast2 (and alos yast1) is only capable of recognizing 8.4 GB each.

I tried to load the cpqarray module from the Suse 8.0 modules disk and also tried to boot with the Suse 8.0 kernel.
But that also doesn't help.

Can anybody please provide some help??

Thanks in advance
Florian

Have you tried the linux version of fdisk? See if you have some partitions on the drive that your installer can't deal with.

Try this url if you want::
There is nothing on this specific issue at compaq or at SuSE so I think that it may be a misconfiguration.

RA,
"..Try the linux version of fdisk..." ??wtf??

marsd, the dos version of fdisk gets a little stupid when you want it to delete a partition it knows nothing about. I had a problem with linux or windows not being able to see a huge chunk of the drive. When I used fdisk that comes with linux, it saw it and deleted it so it was free to be used by any OS. btw what does wtf mean? :)

Not repeatable.
Anyway, I remember you from the ifincham era,
and seem to remember that you gave somewhat more
complete advice.

Better to say:
"Use the *nix formatting utility named similarly to the
win/dos "fdisk" cloned from the prevalent unix formatting *nix utility fdisk, built by those architects of infamy M$."
;)

The problem may be beyond any *nix utilities here.
The compaq array controllers are at work IMO.

Thanks for the answers, guys!

But it didn't work with the fdisk. Any other ideas???

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem with my Pentium 133 computer. For my computer, my bios did not recognize beyond 8 G. Take a look in your bios. Your bios might not recognize beyond 8gig. Try updating all your firmware on your computer.

Rhythm, wtf = what the f....... :)

whatever happened to ifincham? I wasn't around for that, but I've seen some of his posts.

Trekkie.
Right, the proliant series uses a specialized bios for it's array controller. There were some issues with this at
different times, but there was no direct reference to
this problem with the proliant 1600 mentioned at compaq or
SuSE.
If you are interested you could check out the url I provided, there was a whole page on installation of linux on proliant
series servers.

Chris,
Don't know..he seems to have vanished.
