I just upgraded my SuSE Server from 9.1 to 10 and now when it is booting up it gets to a certain point and the screen goes blurry with colors and I can no longer use the console. I know it has something to do with my Savage AGP card cause I found this in my boot.log:
<6>savagefb: mapped io at f8a80000
<6>savagefb: probed videoram: 8192k
<6>savagefb: Detected current MCLK value of 83045 kHz
<6>savagefb: 640x480 TFT LCD panel detected and active
<6>savagefb: Limiting video mode to 640x480
<6>savagefb: mapped framebuffer at f8b80000, pbase == d8000000
<6>Mode (800x600) larger than the LCD panel (640x480)
<6>savagefb v0.4.0_2.6: 8064kB VRAM, using 800x600, 37.878kHz, 60Hz
<4>Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 100x37
<6>fb: S3 Savage/IX-MV frame buffer device

Also, when I swap out to an old PCI video card that I borrowed from another server it works. I only use the console for the command line so I do not need a high end video card. It has worked fine until the upgrade so I can only assume something has changed in SuSE 10.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You need to look at your xorg.conf or xfree86.conf file (depending on which you have) and find the "800x600" line for your video card. I guess it doesn't have an entry for "640x480" so simply replace the "800x600" with a "640x480" and restart the X server.
Hopefully that should solve your problem.

Trojan.

That is the weird part. I don't even have X installed on this system.

Just to clarify, the problem is *frame buffer*, not Xorg.

<6>savagefb: mapped [red]framebuffer[/red] at f8b80000, pbase == d8000000
<6>Mode (800x600) larger than the LCD panel (640x480)

(just clarifying... sorry, I don't know what to do)

Just for grins, I upgraded another server to SuSE 10 with a Savage Video card. I am having similar problems with it now too so I can only assume that SuSE 10 has a problem with the Savage Chip. I'll post a solution here if I can figure it out.

hey... do you have lilo, right? how is your lilo.conf?
