Hi,
I installed linux 9 on intel pentium 4. Every thing looks good. When I get the login screen I see redhat linux logo at the background. But when I login I get only one session open. I not getting the gui mode after login in. I checked the chkconfig to see which init mode I am running in. It showing me init5 which is the gui mode. When I run startx command, I get the following message:

[root@linux1 root]# startx
hostname: Unknown host
Using authority file /root/.Xauthority
Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send

Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
giving up.
xinit: unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

I am very new to this subject. Please help.
Thanks

Try ctrl-alt F7 at console. That's the default tty.
You are not trying X via a remote connection are you,
telnet, rsh, ssh?
X doesn't work this way. You would use something like VNC
for this.

More details please.

Just to let you know ant to put dots on i's. There is no linux 9. It's red-hat 9 ;).
