I have never installed the linux compatibility on a any of my FreeBSD boxes (mostly in fear that it would effect the performance). But I have now run across a need to do so with IBM's DB2 Connect ADO. Does installing the linux compatibility effect FreeBSD's server performance at all?

From what I hear, it doesn't seriously affect it, because its not an emulator, but some sort of deeper kernel stroking. I'm sure it has to affect it some, because every service or daemon you run has an effect. Apparently, though, some Linux programs run as fast, or even faster, in FreeBSD Linux compatibility mode, than in Linux itself. Such was the case with this DB2 install on FreeBSD:

Thank you for the article refrence!!! I have been scouring the net for DB2 connect installations on UNIX and have only found three that all pertained to Linux. BSD Today articles are always great, but I have yet to find a way to search through back articles on their site.

Thanks again ... this should really help me out.

Hello everybody!
JDK for Linux works out-of-the-box with FreeBSD?
I want to (I must) install Progress RDBMS server on my FreeBSD box, and it requires Java...

Thanks to all...
