Our network uses a windows backup domain controller both as DHCP and DNS. When I connect a linux DHCP client, a reversed DNS shows it has no name in the DNS. Is there a way my Linux client can ask the PDC to register it under a certain name, in the same way Windows PC's are always adressable by name, nomatter what their IP adress is?

I think the easy way to do this is to assign a static IP to your Linux box, and create an A/PTR record in DNS for it.
