I have been partially successful in implementing a Linux Gatway between our two networks 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0 (netmask:255.255.255.0).

I am able to ping computer 192.168.2.1 from a computer in the 192.168.1.0 network.

However, what will it take to get 192.168.2.0 domain computers to show up in the Network Neighborhood window of a computer in 192.168.1.0 domain ?

Help! Thanks.

Firstly, what is your objective by setting up 2 networks?

Secondly, what services have you deployed in the 192.168.1.x network that you do not want the hosts in 192.168.2.x network to use/view?

Lastly, did you enable routing and setup the routing tables within the 2 networks?

If you use Mandrake or Redhat, use "linuxconf" goto >> "networking" >> "routing & gateways" >> and select the routing you need to do. Otherwise, if you use Slackware-like Linux edit the "/etc/route.conf" and put in the routing tables.

Then make sure you use "IPCHAINS" and setup the security policies on your gateway. If you need help to set this up, I recommend that you goto " and search for "IPCHAINS". There's a new "ipchains-1.72" script that will assist you. It's "nearly" plug-n-play.
