Hi
I have set up a Linux server to be used as a fileserver in a windows nt domain so users on the domain can read and write to the public share.
I can see the server via network neighbourhood and browse to the share "public" but when I click on it I get the error messege "the network name cannot be found". If I go back to the linux server and check the permissions on the share other does not have read/write access to it.. if I change this so they have access it lets me access it and read/write files to it. After about 20-30mins it reverts back on it own and changes the permissions so noone in the domain has access again.

Please help!!!!

What's OS do you use for your workstation?
If you used Windows 95/98 for workstation.
You should check your samba authentication password.
You encrypted or not for samba user password.
You also can try to use share level security.
Good luck

How do I check these things on the Linux server?

Also how to I set up share level security?

Thanks

Calc

You can check /etc/samba/smb.conf. What security level did you use before?
You read through smb.conf.You will understand more detail.
You need to make sure your smb.conf configuration has configured correctly.
And you checked smb service.
# ps -eaf | grep smb
