I would like to replace our internal NT file/print server with a linux machine. A couple concerns with the Linux machine are printing and backup.

1.) Does anyone have any information/links on whether cups, etc. can be configured to use printers ON AN HP Print Server. Most documentation describes sharing a printer that is connected directly to a machine but I haven't seen much about printers connected to print servers on the network.

2.) Anyone have any backup tape drives they recommend that will work out of the box on RedHat 7.1 -OR- has anyone used removable hard drives as a backup solution??

thanks

Hi,

Have a look at this on CUPS & network printers --> .

In general, any print server than is configured to support lpr can be used quiet happily. Whether it is a HP print server device or a printer hanging off a remote linux/unix server is pretty much transparent. You would just use 'printconf' (or equiv for your distro) to set up a remote print queue, i.e. where the target would something like pr1@10.0.0.2 . For redhat / jetdirect see --> .

Hope this helps
