I need to install RH Linux 7.3 and Win2k on an 80GB drive making it dual bootable. This is for a simulation network and I need to install two separate simulations on the same drive, unfortunately they don't run on the same OS ;-(

I've worked with RH 8.0 and am familiar with the Grub loader which gives you the option of choosing which OS you want to boot to without having to use a boot disk. As I am going to be setting up around 40 machines with 2 drives each configured as dual bootable, this would be preferred to having to have a boot disk for each one to boot to Linux.

Is this possible in 7.3? If so, how?

Thanks for any assistance.

There are a couple of ways:

1. When installing, make a boot disk, but don't install GRUB.

2. Install grub onto the superblock of the linux partition, boot up linux and grab the first 512 bytes:

dd if=/dev/hdX of=/tmp/bootsect.lnx count=512 bs=1
(where X is the partition)
Then copy the file bootsect.lnx from /tmp onto a floppy and voila, you have a boot disk.

I would to it the second way, but both will work.
