I have a usb linksys wireless reciever on my PC. However due to issues with the driver, I had to install this USB wireless receiver about 6 times. Now I finally know how to actually install it properly so that it works. However, it seems that XP has kept a track of how many times I have already connected this device (it says its #7 now). Is there a way to wipe out the any traces of this device so that when i connect it, it doesnt realize that I already had connected it before about 6 times?

tfsweet,

Are you refering to software installs 7 times or USB connecting 7 times.

If the latter, what problem do you see with XP keeping a log of connections?

If you unplug the device and then re-plug it will the # increment?

Guess "what your problem is" is not clear.

yes, where is windows keeping track of this. If its a log (text file) i dont think it matters.
If its in the registry, that could be an issue, but i dont think it would be. When i uninstall anything, i do a manual search in the registry and i almost always find references that i have to delete. But this may not apply to your case, especially when you have the hardware re-installed.
So its back to where is the notification coming from?
