Hello. Iam new to setting up a wireless network, and I tried searching the topic, but was not sure what I was looking for in the first place. Iam trying to pick up a signal from a directway satelite thru a linksys router that is approx. 150 ft away, thru 4 walls. When I try to connect, I can only pick up a 35% signal at best. Because of this, it tells me it cannot associate with the access point. My question is, will a wireless range extender help to fix this?

Linksys claims that their Higher Gain antenna's work. I have used them twice. Once with good result and once where the factory antenna's worked better. Have you tried getting close enough to connect to the router and then moving to the other room? It would be probable to suggest that if you can browse the Internet from that other room once association/authentication occurs, just using higher gain antenna's will work.

I don't think your problem is the 35% signal strength. I've connected at levels below 17%, even 11%. Can you connect with this computer if you temporarily move it closer to the router?

One of my customers had this problem and it turned out to be interference from a neighbors wireless network. In another case, it was a 2.4GHZ cordless phone. It may be a security configuration issue as well. You might want to check your security settings again.
