I just installed a Linksys WRT54G with my Wild Blue Sat. system, works good except my wireless link only connects at 54Mbps while my hard wire through the router is connected at 100Mbps. Is this normal, I was told (not a realiable source) that the wireless connections should be the same as the hard wired one. I tried setting my laptop next to the router, have an excellent signal , still only 54Mbps, would the speed booster model increase this or is this just the way the router works, by reducing the speed.

stunnoni1510,

Hard wired is FASTER - 802.11g (wireless) is limited to about 54 mbs within certain number of feet and will drop off as you move away from the AP.

You also could see drop in speed if several computers are accessing the wireless at the same time, because of collisions and overhead on the wireless - actual throughput is about half of the 54 whereas on the wired side in full duplex you will get 100mbs send and 100mbs recv at same time.

Speed booster uses proprietary compression so you will need "Speed Booster" router and "speed booster" wireless cards for the computers.

Hope this helps!
