Hi there,

I've recently purchased the above items, but cannot connect to the Internet. I can connect to the modem directly by plugging my ethernet cable into its ethernet port and have successfully set up my connection details. The modem will connect okay, and I can ping (for example), but I can't get IE6 to connect through it. When I connect the modem to the Internet port of the router I still can't connect.

I have an NT Server on my network through which I used to connect via Proxy Server 2.0 SP1 - that worked fine, so I know my DSL connection is fine. What settings should I have in IE6 to connect to the internet via the router?

I'm of the opinion that the router and modem don't like each other very much.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Andy Watt

Put the modem in bridge mode.

Use the router setup to control the DSL connection.

Also, check that in IE, Tools, Internet Options, LAN Configuration that you are not still pointed at the now nonexistant proxy server.

Well, I got the darn things working last night. Just a shame I don't know how!

I turned off everything on my network, started modem connected to laptop and configured that. Power cycled and connected to router. Could then ping through router to modem. Swapped router from Gateway to Router and back again. Mucked around with port forwarding and filters, then took them off again. Suddenly I could open web pages. Connected desktop and got that working. Had a merry time swearing until I remembered to disable the WSP client.

Now I just can't get my server to connect via router. I've used the SBS console to (presumably) setup Exchange Server using the router form, but it still won't connect. And of course Proxy Server 2.0 wants a dial-up connection. I'm guessing I could drop Proxy Server as now clients can connect through router.

Also with the WPC54G wireless card in my laptop I cannot log on to my NT domain when I turn on or restart. If I log on, wait through "no domain server was available to take your call" then log off and log back on I get logged on. I've downloaded and tried all three driver updates from Linksys website and have updated the firmware on the WRT54G router, but to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Andy Watt
