Hi:

I setup a wireless router wrt54g at home. I have one PC up and running on win98 with wmp54G wireless G PCI apater.

However when I installed wmp54G on another PC with XP it wont work. The card is installed and device manager says the device is working properly. But its not able to detect any connection with the router.

I called the tech support and everything we tried seemed to be useless. The tech support asked me to change the slot and I did it. But still no result.

I tried with the PC right next to the router thinking the distance could be the issue. But it isnt.

Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem ? Is this a known issue on XP ? I am using XP pro.

Thanks for your help...!

nirajjobanputra,

I just happened to do a Google search on Linksys this evening (1/10/04) and came across your message. I'm not trying to show any disrespect to this forum, but there is a lot of good Linksys information (including the WRT54G router and WMP54G NIC) on the dslreports.com linksys forum. Here is the link:

I have been told by Cisco (Linksys) that the WMP54G will only work on PCs with a PCI slot of v2.2. They say that this slot has only been in common use for the past 12 months or so.

It may be that you are trying to use it on an 'older' PC. None of this is mentioned anywhere on the Linksys site and their support people appear to know nothing about what would seem to be a fairly major limitation.

WMP54G will work on earlier specification PCI slots, it does not demand 2.2

I agree. It works fine on a mid 80s gateway 2000 cpu running 98se, but not on a 1995 cpu with xp. im in the same boat as the original poster

If you are using the latest driver software, disable the Bluetooth option in Advanced settings.

Done.
