Linksys WMP54G and WRT54G connection problems

I can't seem to get the network cards to connect to the wireless router at all
Router is set for no encription for now and set proper according to the linksys site for a new wireless connection
The 2 wireless network cards are on older machines running windows 98se ( was a pain to get them installed but they are and in system says they are working proper )
Using the linksys utility to see what the settings are ( and in network properties ) I cannot get any signal at all
I'v even tried installing the network cards in the main machine ( running XP Pro ) and cannot even get a connection signal 3 feet away from the router
Any sugestions would be helpfull

Have you checked to see if their is an update for the software in the router? Check their website and see if an upgrade is available.
