Setting up new Dim4600 2.8MHz using XPPro. Had the linksys card in my machine at home worked fine. Didn't read the install instructions and installed WLAN software on machine before installing card. Fired up machine and everything looked fine card found network. Icon showed a link and there was excellent signal strength. After a short period of in activity the link was lost. I could reconnect by going into the software and hit the connect button. Would stay connected for a short interval. Read on linksys site that i should not have the WLAN software on the machine so I unistalled the card and deleted the software using uninstall. I reinstalled the card and reinstalled the drivers only. Now it appears that the card is getting a steady link but I cannot get a connection. The wireless network window shows my linksys WAP54g but when I tell it to connect it does not. I do not have WEP activated and the wireless access point works fine with the other machines that access it. Wireless Zero is working. I read something about XP Pro requiring WEP to allow the link. What am I missing? Did I delete something when deleting the original install?

I've had a problem before that you need to broadcast the ssid (router setup) to get XP to connect.

Also, are you setting up a profile for it (the bottom box) for windows xp? That would be the best way to do it.

Thanks,

Jon

I have worked around the problem. I was broadcasting the SSID and 802.1X authentication was not checked but I still could not log on. In my post I mentioned that originally I installed the WLAN software that Linksys supplied and the card would connect briefly. I uninstalled and reinstalled according to Linksys instructions using only the XP drivers since it was dropping the connection. From then on the WMP11 would not connect. I tried every possible way to configure and reinstall the card. Finally on Linksys site for another device I saw a work around for people with new computers trying to install older wireless equipment that required a diabling wireless zero and using WLAN. I attempted to reinstall WLAN but could not until I removed the registry files pertaining to the WMP11 card. With a fresh install of WLAN the card connected and has worked flawlessly.
