First time. Please be gentle.

I have a linksys wirless g pci card in my laptop. A wireless g card in my pc and a g router(linksys) The pc connects fine 54 Mbps signal very good. The problem is my laptop card. Does not connect to the internet automatically and when I finally get a connection it either is at 1-2 Mbps of if I am lucky enough to get 54 it drops to 1-2 mbps as soon as I attempt to connect to the internet.

Laymans terms are welcome.

You have a 54 meg wireless connection between you and you r wireless access point or router , your pipe into the internet is never going to be more than 1-3 meg per second if you are using cable modem or dsl , so really 54G wireless is really useless unless you are transferring large amounts of files between pc's within your house . In fact if you are trying to send large amounts of data out to the internet it's possible you can choke these low end inexpensive routers because you are trying to shove a 54 meg pipe down a 2 meg pipe . For most wireles users 11 B access points are more than adequate , 54 G should be left to corporate users than have big pipes on their networks .
