Here is my situation. I have two stores: one existing and the second to open in 2 to 3 weeks. The second store will have three computers that need to access a server at the existing store.

The same ISP provides service at each location (384K up and down) but says:

'We will be putting our Integral Access T-1 termination equipment on site. This equipment can do basic routing but only has the ability to do VPN Pass-through. It does not have the ability to terminate a VPN tunnel.'

So I need to get some equipment to set up a vpn. I've used some Linksys equipment before but never for a VPN setup. Can I create a site-to-site vpn between the two stores with Linksys kit?

Thanks In Advance

You could use an RV042 at each store. This would also allow you to have a backup internet connection someday if you wanted to. If you have a few extra bucks, you could move up to the RV082. You can create a router to router VPN with these devices.

That's looking good! Do I just assign a static ip to each device and then tell them to look for the other static?

Thanks!

You will probably want your ISP to set their equipment up to forward everything through to your router (in other words, no routing by their device). They will tell you what IP addresses to use at each location. To see what you'll need to do to set up the VPN, have a look at the users guide at the link above. The VPN stuff starts at numbered page 39 (PDF page 48).

Hey smah,

thanks for the equipment recommendation. worked like a charm!

Glad it worked out. They are actually pretty good devices for the money.
